Reverend Al Miller Found Guilty In Gun Trial

Head of the Fellowship Tabernacle church, Reverend Al Miller was on Friday morning found guilty of negligence at his trial before the Corporate Area Criminal Court in St. Andrew. Reverend Miller was found guilty of losing his licensed firearm in January. He's to be sentenced on October 28.

During the trial, Reverend Miller had argued that he left the weapon in his car on January 22 when he stopped to pick plums on the playground of the Shortwood Primary and Junior High School. He claimed that he should not be held criminally liable for the loss of the weapon.

But in handing down judgement this morning, Resident Magistrate Shelly Williams said based on the evidence presented by the Crown, Reverend Miller was criminally negligent in losing his firearm.

During her submission, the Magistrate argued that at no time did Reverend Miller mention that he observed any sign that someone had broken into his car on his return to the vehicle.

And Reverend Miller's attorney Leslie Campbell says he's not pleased that his client has been found guilty.
“A decision has been made by the judge, yes it is one decision which he could make, the other, he could have found him not guilty. I am not happy that my client has been found guilty but of course you prepare yourself that in the event the decision goes this way you know the options available to you”  said Mr Campbell.
