Veteran Reggae Star Denroy Morgan Held In Drug Bust

Prominent Reggae musician, Denroy Morgan left the Jamaican music industry in shock after he was reportedly arrested and held for possession of marijuana on Wednesday Afternoon in New York.

According to the New York Daily News, detectives in the Bronx, NY area were working on an unrelated case when they saw Morgan walking out of a building carrying what seemingly was a brick of ganja in shrink-wrap packaging. Police then followed the reggae legend’s car; pulling him over for running a stop sign. When they stopped Morgan, the police smelled a strong stench of marijuana coming from the vehicle; later finding 25 pounds of ganja in the trunk.

When police returned to the building Morgan emerged from, they found 310 pounds of marijuana there. Another man, Wayne Sway was arrested following the search that discovered 350 pounds of ganja that police estimated was worth anywhere between US$140,000 (JA$12 million) and US $351,000 (JA$30 million).

Denroy Morgan is mostly renowned for his hit single, “I’ll Do Anything For You” and is the father of internationally acclaimed Reggae group, Morgan Heritage. Additionally he’s the father of emerging Hip-hop star, Laza Morgan.

Both Morgan & Sway have been arrested with criminal possession of marijuana. The charge for Morgan comes nearly two years after fellow Reggae superstar, Buju Banton’s infamous cocaine bust that he later was sentenced to ten years for. Morgan’s bail was set at US$8000.
