Embattled Reggae superstar, Mark “Buju Banton” Myrie will be the
centre of an upcoming concert in his honor to support the artiste as he
aims to appeal his conviction in hope of a lighter sentence.
A Buju Banton benefit concert is set to take place on December 3rd in
Tampa, Florida; raising money to help assist Buju & his legal team
as they attempt to appeal his ten year sentence received this past
February for drug-related charges. Reportedly, legendary Reggae acts
such as Glen Washington & Nadine Sutherland are two of the many
artistes who are on the event’s lineup card. Additionally, acts such as
Tony Curtis, Jigsy King & Morgan Heritage singer, Gramps Morgan
have been confirmed for the event.
Sutherland & Morgan were two of several artistes who performed at
Buju’s Before The Dawn concert this past January in Miami; the singer’s
last performance before his February trial. Since his conviction,
Buju’s long-time friend and fellow Reggae artiste, Delly Ranx has
dedicated profits from their collaborative single entitled, “Thunder
Roll” to the “Destiny” singer’s commissary account while he languishes
in prison.
It was announced last week that Buju would be serving his 10 year
prison term at the Limestone County Correctional Institution in
Groesbeck, Texas. Buju is scheduled to be released from prison on
February 1, 2019; counting time already served between his two drug
trials.
Buju was convicted on three drug charges stemming from a sting
operation carried out in December 2009 when he allegedly attempted to
organize a drug deal within a police controlled warehouse.
