Grammy-winning and internationally acclaimed singer, Celine Dion will headline the 2012 Jazz and Blues festival in Trelawny.
The French-Canadian artiste was announced as the show’s main act
during the official launch of the Jazz and Blues festival at the
Iberostar Suites hotel in Montego Bay on Wednesday. The festival, set to
take place at the Trelawny multi-purpose stadium from January 26-28
next year, will showcase Dion, amongst other international acts, for
their 17th edition.
Chairman of the Jazz and Blues festival, Walter Elmore expressed his
joy regarding being able to land a singer of Dion’s stature for the
event.
"Bringing an act the magnitude of a Celine Dion is something I have
dreamt since the day I started the jazz festival 16 years ago,” Elmore
said.
Elmore waxed poetic of Dion’s performance skills; insisting that her presence will add a certain aura to the annual festival. When you see a Celine Dion performance, it is etched in your mind,” Elmore intimated.
Dion, who’s achieved mainstream success since the 1980s, is renowned for countless hit songs such as All By Myself, It’s All Coming Back To Me and My Heart Will Go On, the theme song for the memorable film,Titanic.
Dion leads a reputable list of international acts slated to perform
at the 2012 Jazz and Blues festival; a list that includes former
Destiny’s Child singer, Kelly Rowland, Jamaican-Canadian singer, Jully
Black and Jazz singer, Nicole Henry.
Meanwhile, the local component of the festival’s lineup card will be
well represented as the show’s new promoters, Art of Music Productions,
are aiming to create a theme celebrating Jamaica’s 50th year of
independence in 2012. Local Reggae acts set to perform at the event
include Reggae legends, John Holt, Half Pint and Marcia Griffiths along
with Dancehall superstars, Shaggy and Yellowman.
