Gully boss and 'We The Best' recording artiste David Brooks better known as Mavado is set to return to court on May 16, 2012 when he will answer to an assault charge.
The new trial date was set when the singjay appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
According to the official police report the charge stems from an incident at the Quad nightclub in New Kingston on
June 12 when the deejay and members of his entourage were in attendance at the birthday celebrations
of Alliance boss Bounty Killer. It is alleged a melee ensued
during which, Brooks’ childhood friend, Conroy ‘Connie’ Edwards was shot
by an off-duty policeman. He died later at the Kingston Public
Hospital.
Brooks’s attorney Chris Tavares-Finson who is also representing incarcerated superstar Vybz Kartel yesterday said, “We
know that at the end of the day, Mr Brooks will be freed of the charge
against him.”
Tavares-Finson also raised questions over the fact that the policeman
who shot Edwards has not been charged. “We find it quite interesting
that Mr Brooks is the only individual charged from the incident,
considering that somebody has lost his life,” the attorney said.
Mavado is currently riding high on the local scene with his single 'Settle Down' on the Overproof riddim, for which an accompanying video was also shot and released.
