Emerging Dancehall superstar, Popcaan has switched booking agents just four months after enlisting the services of a prominent label to control his appointments.
The breakthrough Portmore Empire deejay initially joined forces with Patrick Roberts, owner of the Shocking Vibes record label last October; confirming that the prominent imprint was Popcaan’s official booking agency. The arrangement took place after initial talks involving Popcaan and Roberts’ son, Jamie Roberts, more popularly known as Young Vibez. There were even reports that Shocking Vibes were looking to manage Popcaan outright going forward
However, Popcaan now claims that a different entity will take bookings on his behalf going forward. In a radio interview on Wednesday night, the Ravin’ singer intimated that internationally-acclaimed communications company, Creative Source Inc. will take full charge of his bookings.
“At the moment still, I got Creative Source responsible for the bookings. (I’m) well taken care of,” Popcaan said before shouting out Creative Source TV producer, Carlene Samuels.
According to some gossip websites and music insiders, Popcaan reportedlyfell out withJamie Roberts after the popular producer stopped his fatherfrom taking bookings on the Only Man She Want deejay’s behalf; causing recording work between the two musicians to cease. However, these reports have not been substantiated.
Meanwhile, Popcaan revealed during Wednesday’s radio interview that he still has not contacted long-time mentor, Vybz Kartel since the Portmore Empire leader was initially arrested last September and later slapped with murder, drug and obstruction of justice related charges. However, the deejay maintained that he remains a loyal member of Vybz Kartel’s ‘Gaza’ based crew.
Popcaan is currently promoting his new mixtape, Yiy Change, featuring productions by TJ Records. Additionally, an official remix for his number one hit single, Only Man She Want, featuring Jamaican-American hip-hop superstar, Busta Rhymes will be unveiled on Friday.
