What is reggae superstar Jah Cure 'longing for' these days? To gave into the eyes of his first child, Kailani Belle Alcock. His
daughter was born last month in California but he was unable to be
there for the happy event, but instead had to be content to witness the
event via Skype.
"I just can't wait to see her and hold her for the first time," a beaming Jah Cure said.
Kailani
Belle Alcock was dragged kicking and screaming into the world after
Kamila spent 26 gruelling hours in labour at Alta Bates hospital in
Berkeley, California . Her name means 'Beautiful Chief from the
Heavens.'
She clocked in at a healthy seven pounds and three ounces and measuring 19 inches
“Her
mother chose her name still, a beautiful name for a beautiful princess.
Seeing her for the first time was just incredible, the greatest feeling
in the world…words can’t explain.”
Jah Cure has not been able to hold his daughter in his arms yet since
she was born at a hospital in the USA, but Kamila is doing double duty
until they are reunited. She is overwhelmed with joy at the prospect of
being a mother.
“When I finally held her for the first time--after 26 hours of
grueling and intense labor--I immediately fell in love. It's a kind of
love I've never experienced before, one that I didn't even know existed!
I just know that I will treasure that special moment forever...everyday
I fall more and more in love!” Kamila said.
When Kamila returns to Jamaica, Kailani will eventually be baptized
in the Ethiopian Orthodox faith. Until then, Jah Cure will have to
content himself with singing and talking to his daughter via Skype.
While she was in utero, he regularly spoke and sang to her via Skype.
It was tough for Cure but his wife, Kamila is completing her Master's degree at UC Berkeley.
“We
decided to have the baby here (in California) so he was unable to be
physically present but he joined me for the experience via
Skype...so although he wasn't there in the flesh it meant everything to
be able to"see" him and hear the encouraging words and support,” she
said.
He actually predicted the exact date that his daughter, Kailani, would enter this world: February 19, 2012.
Jah Cure revealed that he had been granted divine insight into his daughter’s date of birth - Jah's inside information.
“Ah just Jah show me still, ah Jah work. He told me when she was coming,” Jah Cure said.
Jah Cure has not yet tackled his first round of diaper duty but that will change soon.
“He
will be getting his baptism by fire when I come home with her for the
first time at the end of March...that's when he'll have his first diaper
change, first all nighter...many special firsts to come ,” she said,
laughing.
“When I move back home in May, we'll definitely be sharing the awesome responsibility of late night feedings and "hushings".”
In
the meantime, Jah Cure has already started working on a song for
Kailani which should be ready by the time she arrives in March. Maybe he will call it, 'Longing Far Part Twice'.
