Vybz Kartel To Unveil New Book This Friday

Despite being incarcerated as he awaits trial in two separate murder cases, internationally acclaimed Dancehall superstar, Vybz Kartel refuses to be muted as the prominent entertainer will release his long anticipated book on July 6.

Voice of the Jamaican Ghetto, the first ever book written by Vybz Kartel will be unveiled on Friday as an official launch will take place across the street from the Horizon Remand Centre in Spanish Town, where Kartel has spent the last few months in custody.

According to a press release issued on Wednesday, Kartel and co-author, Michael Dawson completed the manuscript in the summer of last year and that Voice of the Jamaican Ghetto was officially copyrighted last August in the United States.

Over the last few months, the artiste whose real name is Adidja Palmer has released several excerpts of his book as teasers for his fans. According to the release, Voice of the Jamaican Ghetto will signal a fight for change in Jamaica and should spark interesting conversations on many topics such as racism, classism amongst other things.

Furthermore, Kartel’s debut book will reportedly bring many of Jamaica’s hidden issues to the forefront as he aims to fight for those in the ghetto who don’t necessarily have a voice.

The release states that Voice of the Jamaican Ghetto promises to expose the "other half of the story that has never been told.” A story which Reggae pioneers have sang about - but Vybz Kartel has dared to put it into book form. While Kartel proudly acknowledges 50 years of Independence for Jamaica, Voice of the Jamaican Ghetto boldly asks - “50 years of what for poor people?”

Vybz Kartel faces a pair of murder charges as well as obstruction of justice related charges in his ongoing murder cases. However, the self-professed 'Worl' Boss' was recently freed from a drug charge that he was slapped with when initially arrested last September in New Kingston.
