Guards Involved In Gay Beating Removed From Duty

Several security guards involved in the controversial beating of a student at the University of Technology (UTECH) in Kingston have been removed from duty as the tertiary institution engages damage control as a result of the incident.

On Friday morning, an announcement was  made that the security personnels in question had been removed from duty by their employer. Additionally, the security company is in talk with UTECH about a resolution to the issue.

In the meantime, the National Youth Council of Jamaica (NYC) issued a statement on Friday afternoon condemning the beating, suggesting that nobody, regardless of sexual orientation, should be treated in such a manner.

“All forms of abuse must be soundly condemned regardless of an individual sexual orientation. We must be resolute in championing the rights of every single Jamaican,” the statement read, in part.

The council also expressed their dismay with university security personnel who are required to protect and serve others, regardless of color, creed or orientation. Furthermore, the council labeled the situation as a further example of ignorance to common decency, tolerance and respect.
