Emerging Reggae act, Protoje continues to demonstrate that he is indeed rising. While lyrical tenacity is nothing new for his fans, many have found greater than usual pleasure in his new single, 'Kingston Be Wise.' Accomplished producer Don Corleon has simply outdone himself on the beat, and 'Kingston Be Wise' is being hailed as breath of fresh air on the airwaves.
Colin Hines, the FAME 95FM personality who is known to be an industry tastemaker, listened to the track and declared it "fresh, positive and potent reggae music," before going on to congratulate the creators. "Props to both producer and artist for a quailty song that scores high on words and high on music."
In a tweet directed at Protoje, UK-based stalwart, David Rodigan said, "Hey @Protoje 'Kingston Be Wise' is one wicked fireball of a tune, a real scorcher."
California-based King I-Vier described it as an "instant classic." According to the selector who plays for the sound system, Jah Warrior Shelter Hi-Fi, "From the first time I played it in the club, the dance floor got packed and people absorbed the message."
And the message is a serious one. 'Kingston Be Wise' was written shortly after the Tivoli Gardens massacre that accompanied the now infamous 2010 extradition. More than two years later, Protoje found the quality production and the charismatic delivery to do his words justice.
'Kingston Be Wise' will appear on Protoje's sophomore album, The 8 Year Affair, which is set for release very early in 2013.
