Mavado Cleared To Enter Barbados After 2 Year Ban

After being barred from entertaining Barbadians two years ago, popular Dancehall superstar Mavado has been cleared to enter Barbados and is slated to perform in the island this week.

Event promoter, George 'Jack' Farrell, told members of the media that he had been granted approval to bring the singer to perform, notwithstanding the controversy that had surrounded a planned appearance in 2010.

At that time, the proposed appearance by Mavado and fellow Jamaican deejay Vybz Kartel had led to much debate among Barbadians who considered that the artists’ songs had a negative influence on the youth. The raging controversy resulted in the cancellation of the show and the imposition of the ban.

Vybz Kartel (born Adidja Palmer), who was slated to share top billing with Mavado in the aborted 2010 concert, is currently incarcerated and facing murder and other charges.

With reference to Mavado’s forthcoming appearance, promoter Farrell predicted no difficulties.

“I don’t anticipate any problems. He was here three times before. His great-grandmother is from Ruby, St Philip,” Farrell said, referring to an area on Barbados’ East Coast.

Mavado whose given name is David Brooks, is booked to perform alongside fellow entertainers Popcaan, RDX, Lisa Hype and Laza Morgan. Others supporting local acts include MC Daddy Plume, Peter Ram, King Slim, Mikey Dread, Fatman, Ben Ten, Dun Deal, Snappah, and DJ Don Terry.

Mavado is scheduled to arrive in Barbados on Friday, December 14th.
