Subkonshus Music recording artist Darrio is without a doubt one of the hottest new act for 2012. The rising dancehall artiste had his best year to date being one of the few newcomers to score a number one song locally this year. He also embarked on numerous local and overseas performances and released a consistent diet of hot singles and music videos.
He kicked off 2012 with the track School Fee entering various charts. The song which featured prominently on the School Fee rhythm project from the Subkonshus Music label, gave him the attention he craved by simultaneously opening up various performing opportunities in the Caribbean and Europe.
One of Darrio’s standout moments for 2012 was the memorable performance he delivered at Reggae Sumfest 2012 in Montego Bay during the set from Konshens. He would later collaborate with Konshens on the smash hit Siddung produced by Washroom Entertainment.
The song was welcomed by dancehall fans, especially the females, and quickly made its way on local and overseas radio playlists. It topped several charts in Jamaica, Barbados, Trinidad and Guyana. Darrio recently signed a management deal with Subkonshus Music, a label he has been affiliated with for some time now. He also snagged a booking deal with Headline Entertainment.
In a release to the media, Darrio spoke about the achievements he made in 2012. ‘It’s a great move and I am really happy with the way things are looking, because I am already seeing the results and the impact in terms of shows and media exposure. The promotion tun up so it’s a good look’, said Darrio.
Dancehall fans who have experienced this young star's onstage performance will undoubtedly agree that Darrio is not the average, shy on stage new artist. The jovial, charismatic side of his personality is shown throughout his performances; the confidence and witty lyrical capabilities which he displays onstage is a reflection of his ability to captivate the undivided attention of his audience. This is a characteristic that very few new artistes possess.
A favourite with high school students, Darrio displays versatility transitioning from hardcore dancehall anthems such as Siddung to a more toned down delivery on Hooked on You. When asked about the response to his music outside of Jamaica, he stated ‘The people show me a lot of love all over and I have been to a few places this year. I have done shows in Barbados, Guyana, Africa, Europe and the US. Some of the places I have never been before’.
For 2013, Darrio plans to continue the momentum which brewed in 2012. “I will have to put in twice the amount of work that I did in 2012. So the fans can look out for more songs, more videos, and good performances’, Darrio confided.
Darrio will put the lid on a successful 2012 when he embarks on a series of performances in France. Under the management and guidance of Subkonshus Music, Darrio is poised and eager to face the music in 2013.
His latest single Hurry Up is already leading the charge of new releases going into the New Year.
