Dexta Daps Bail Extended, Artiste Returns To Court June 9

Dancehall entertainer Louis 'Dexta Daps' Grandison, who reportedly got into an altercation with police officers at the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, over a parking violation, will make his next appearance in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on June 9.

The 7/11 hitmaker, who has become one of Jamaica's fast-rising entertainers, showed up in court yesterday along with his co-defendant, Essan Richards, both dressed in suit and tie, and represented by prominent attorney-at-law Peter Champagnie. They had their bails extended by presiding magistrate Natalie Hart-Hines.

Reports are that on April 27, Grandison parked his car in a restricted area at the Sangster International Airport, and was accosted by the police. An argument ensued between the parties and subsequently escalated into a physical altercation.

Grandison is charged with assault occasioning bodily harm, obstructing police, using indecent language and resisting arrest. Richards is facing similar charges, but is also charged with possession of ganja.

Champagnie told the court that his clients were maintaining their not-guilty pleas.

"The plea in respect of all the matters is an emphatic not guilty," Champagnie told RM Hart-Hines.

Grandison originally hails from Seaview Gardens, which has produced veteran artistes such as Bounty Killer, Shabba Ranks and Elephant Man.
