Reggae sensation Christopher Martin promises to deliver a sharp performance at the 19th St. Kitts Music Festival. The artiste, who will appear on the stage for a second time, is set to make a Big Deal when he performs on the final night of the three day Festival on Friday, June 26. Iconic dancehall veteran Bounty Killer, Hip-Hop princess Ciara, Reggae group Aswad and the Island Explosion Band are also set to ignite Warner Park Stadium on the Festival’s second night.
Acknowledging that the St. Kitts Music Festival continues to face the challenges of increased travel fares and high performance and production costs, organizers believe that the 19-year old summer event, continues to ‘punch above its weight.’ At $100 EC per night, they point out that it also continues to be the most affordable event of the kind in the region.
Tourism Minister Lindsay Grant says, a conscious decision has been made to keep the ticket price stable. "The whole idea behind the St. Kitts Music Festival was to get persons here...during the so-called slow period to generate economic activity...and it still is one of the major drivers behind the Sr. Kits Music Festival," the Minister said.
According to Chairman Farron Lawrence the Music Festival received a two million dollar subvention from government. It costs about $2.5 million to mount - including performance and production costs - with some $600,000 of that in cash and kind coming from sponsorship.
"The music Festival creates the perfect business environment. It's an event, you have thousands of people on the island looking for places to eat, things to do, places to visit. The Music Festival has created that environment, it's for the private sector to take advantage of that environment,"
Mr. Lawrence said Thursday. The 2015 St. Kitts Music Festival is slated for June 25th to 27th.
