Dancehall artiste Popcaan has collaborated with controversial American rapper Young Thug and producer-artiste Jamie XX for the single, Good Times.
The single was released last month, but has already received more than one million views on YouTube with little promotion. Young Thug is popularly known for his metro-sexual style of dressing, including the wearing of nail polish. He has also released a slew of hit records, including Lifestyle featuring Birdman and Rich Homie Quan and All About The Money with TI.
Jamie XX is an English music producer and remix artiste known both as a solo act and a member of the London-based band The XX.
Jamie XX, in a recent interview with popular hip-hop website Music Times, said he collaborated with Popcaan and Young Thug because he wanted to make a colourful summer record. He said he rejected the vocals of other rappers in favour of Young Thug.
Popcaan also took to twitter to make a prediction about the song's potential success. "Unruly fans stand up. I told you the summer is going to be unruly. Good Times. Shout out to Young Turks Records," he tweeted.
Popcaan's album, Where We Come From, recently won Album of The Year, beating out Mr Vegas, Tarrus Riley, Wayne Marshall, Sean Paul, and Ziggy Marley at the Star Awards. The album did not perform well on the Billboard charts, but was popular among social-media viewers, receiving millions of views on YouTube.
Popcaan, who is unable to travel to the US, has collaborated with American artistes like Snoop Lion, Pusha T and Acehood.
