Beenie Man & Popcaan Collaborates With British Group

Dancehall artistes Beenie Man and Popcaan are featured on the remix of British duo Krept and Konan's Freak of the Week single.

The track -- which also features American R&B singer Jeremih -- was produced by California-based DJ Mustard.

Released last weekend in the United Kingdom, Freak of the Week samples Jamaican producer Jeremy Harding's 1997 Playground riddim. Harding gave the remix thumbs up.

"The remix sounds good. One of dancehall's current titans [Popcaan] with one of dancehall's legends. Beenie Man killed it," Harding said yesterday.

The Playground riddim sampled a loop from Section, a song by neo-soul band The Roots.

The South London duo Krept and Konan comprises Casyo 'Krept' Johnson and Karl 'Konan' Wilson, son of Jamaican ska/rock steady/reggae singer Delroy Wilson.

A week ago the duo signed with Def Jam Recordings in the United States. Prior to that, they were on the Virgin EMI Records roster.

Krept and Konan's cover of Jay-Z and Kanye West's Otis brought them mainstream attention in 2011, and since then they have been racking up the awards.

In 2013 the duo won Best UK Newcomer at the MOBO Awards and took Best International Act UK award at the BET Awards. Earlier this year they won the Best Newcomer title at the 2015 MTV Brand New Awards in the UK.
