After several years of postponement due to various hiccups including a backlog of cases, the rape trial involving colourful entertainer Elephant Man is finally set to get on its way this Monday July 6, 2015 inside the Home Circuit Court.
The artiste, whose given name is O'niel Bryan is charged with rape stemming from a January 2012 incident involving a 31-year-old woman at his Hillcrest Avenue home in St Andrew.
He was charged after being picked up by detectives assigned to the Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse (CISOCA).
Allegations are that Elephant Man sexually assaulted the woman at his home in St Andrew. A report was made to CISOCA and following investigations he was taken into custody.
Following a question-and-answer session, in the presence of his attorney, Linda Wright, Elephant Man was charged with grevious sexual assault and rape. However he was subsequently released after posting bail in the sum of J$400,000.
The artiste bail has since been extended.
