OMI Dethrones Wiz Khalifa & Set To Make Appearance on NBC's Tonight Show

OMI has taken over the number one spot on the United States' Billboard Hot 100 Chart with Felix Jaehn's remix of Cheerleader.

The song replaced See You Again by American rapper Wiz Khalifa and singer Charlie Puth from its 12-week perch at number one.

"I'm excited to be here holding the number one spot. It's every artiste's dream, I couldn't ask for more. I have the best team, the best fans," he told the media

OMI is the fifth Jamaican to top the Billboard Hot 100.

Kingston-born Carl Douglas was the first in 1974 with Kung Fu Fighting. It was not until 1994 that another Jamaican, Ini Kamoze, repeated the feat with Here Comes the Hot Stepper.

Shaggy was next in 2000 with It Wasn't Me which featured singer Ricardo 'Rik Rok' Ducent. In 2001, Shaggy followed-up with Angel alongside Barbadian singer Rayvon.

Sean Paul went to number one three times. In 2003, he took the Steven 'Lenky' Marsden-produced Get Busy to the top. Later that year, he was featured on Beyonce's Baby Boy.

Sean Paul returned to the top spot as a solo act in 2006 with Temperature.

This evening, OMI performs on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on NBC. It airs at 10:35 pm local time.
