Jah Cure Disqualified From MOBO Awards

Jamaican Reggae star Jah Cure has been disqualified from the MOBO Awards after discovery of his criminal record.

The singer whose real name is Siccature Alcock - was removed from the Best Reggae Act category, when the organisers found that he had been convicted of rape in 1999. Cure was also found guilty of gun possession and robbery and served time behind bars before being released in 2007.

According to the Awards, the star was deemed ineligible to be nominated for the award due to the "severity of his crimes."

Other artistes nominated in the Reggae category include: Damian Marley & Nas, Mavado, and newcomer Khago.

The MOBO Award ceremony takes place on October 5.
