Gyptian Freed After 3 Hours Questioning By Police

Detectives attached to the Major Investigation Task Force (MIT) completed three hours of questioning popular reggae artiste, Gyptian Monday night, September 19th.

The entertainer, whose given name is Windel Edwards, was questioned in connection with an incident a week ago during which a man identified as Davian Bailey, was shot dead by gunmen at a recording studio on Dumbarton Avenue in Kingston.

Gyptian's attorney, Peter Champagnie, said that following the questioning session, his client was told by the police that he was free to go.

"He was never in custody. The police indicated last week that they wanted to interview him (and) I indicated to the police that we would (come) in voluntarily. We came in and after the interview (Gyptian) was told that he was free to go.

"The (police) are continuing their investigations in relation to this incident and (Gyptian) has absolutely nothing to do with this incident," Mr. Champagnie said.

Mr. Bailey, otherwise called "Buru" was at the 007 Recording studio on Dumbarton Avenue, when five men armed with guns entered and opened fire on him. He died on the spot.

The police said his killing stemmed from a dispute which took place earlier at the studio.
