Garrison recording artiste, Romane Anderson, more popularly known
as Blak Ryno, has thrown down the gauntlet to former protege', Popcaan for a lyrical showdown; possibly at this year’s STING.
The Tek Away Dem Gyal deejay and Popcaan have been at odds since Ryno departure from the Portmore Empire in February 2010 following a disagreement with
the group’s leader, Vybz Kartel. The following month, Ryno released the diss
track, Mi Lef; explaining his reasoning for leaving the Gaza group.
Popcaan quickly retaliated with the single, Dem Sell Wi Out; calling out Ryno regarding his decision. Both artistes has remained silent on the issue since the singles were released.
However, Ryno spoke out regarding his issues with the Ravin deejay; intimating that it was a song Popcaan recorded entitled, Nuh Box Pon Jaw that re-ignited their conflict.
In the single, Popcaan says, “Badman nuh tek box pon jaw, all now
some bwoy sey dem bad and cyaah defeat wi doe. Mi have a thing wey mi
walk wid, tek wey yu three points mek some bwoy haffi play zero.”
According to Ryno, the song was directed at him given events that transpired
during his tenure as a Portmore Empire member.
Ryno retorted with the single, Gaza Beating Stick, produced by Gargamel Music producer, Markus Myrie, son of legendary Reggae singer, Buju Banton. In Gaza Beating Stick, “Di Stinger”challenges Popcaan to a lyrical battle.
Ryno deejays, “When yuh see mi yuh run like three likkle pig, how badman
fi name Popcaan, him a country man from him born, put yuh pon a country
bus, guh back dung a St Thomas fi guh back guh plant pak choi, when yuh
see di clan and the click if yuh think yu bad, flip.”
Additionally, Ryno hinted that fans could see the lyrical battle play out at STING this December.
"If a artiste a style mi, mi wi run een an deal wid it, but mi jus a
gwaan watch dem now,” Ryno stated before adding, "Wi nuh
tek long fi sick, suh if a war a war.”
Popcaan is yet to respond to Ryno’s taunt, will he accept the challenge is what fans are waiting to hear with bated breath?
