Dancehall superstar Mavado was found guilty of assault and causing
grievous bodily arm when he appeared in the Montego Bay Registrate
Magistrate Court on Monday, May 7, 2012.
He was fined J$80,000 or six (6) months in prison. He was also charged with malicious destruction of property and fined an additional J$20,000 or six (6) months in jail.
The sentences are to run concurrently.
Mavado, who's given name is David Brooks, was on trial for malicious
destruction of property, following an incident last year in the Belmont,
St James. He was accused of being part of a group that attacked two men following a motor vehicle accident.
Mavado was arrested and charged on July 22, last year following
allegations that he and members of his entourage assaulted a man and his
son, damaging their motor vehicle in the process.
Meanwhile, earlier this week, Cash Money Records co-founder, Birdman announced that his label has now signed We The Best Music Group under their imprint, making Mavado an affiliate of the Young Money Cash Money Billionaires (YMCMB) as he's now under the Cash Money umbrella.
Mavado continues to assert his authority on the local music scene with the recent release of singles such as Action Pak, Come Round and All Faces.
