Vybz Kartel Sacks Legal Team & Hires New Attorney

Embattled Dancehall superstar, Vybz Kartel will be seated beside a completely transformed defence team when he returns to court next month.

The internationally acclaimed artiste, currently in police custody on two murder charges, reportedly sacked his star-studded legal team following his hearing on Thursday. The legal counsel consisted of prominent attorneys, Tom Tavares-Finson, Chris Tavares-Finson and Michael Deans, who also represents Kartel’s protege, Shawn Storm who was also charged in one of Kartel’s murder cases.

Kartel will now be represented by English-Jamaican lawyer, Hannah Harris-Barrington, who the deejay has commissioned to handle his cases going forward. Harris-Barrington revealed in a radio interview on Monday that she was informed of Kartel’s decision to change attorneys; complying with the request of the deejay’s family to meet with the self-professed “Worl’ Boss” before her services were secured. Additionally, she revealed that at least two other attorneys-at-law will join their defence team.

Kartel was charged with murder, conspiracy to murder and illegal possession of a firearm on October 3rd in relation to the July shooting death of Barrington “Bossie” Burton, 27, of a St. Catherine address.

Additionally, the Portmore Empire leader was charged with another murder on October 24; standing accused of killing Clive “Lizard” Williams, a dancer from Waterford, St. Catherine. Kartel’s designer, Calvin “Moonie” Haye, entourage member, Kiro Jones and Portmore Empire singjay, Shawn Storm were also charged in Williams’s murder. All of the men were remanded in custody until October 2.

Kartel has been denied bail on several occasions since his initial arrest on September 29 at a New Kingston hotel where a small quantity of marijuana was found.
