Deejay Busy Signal's latest album D.O.B may not have been talked about much by local fans but impressed persons abroad having been featured in Rolling Stone magazine.
American journalist and author Jody Rosen featured the album in his article 'Jody Rosen's Best of 2010' on www.rollingstone.com, published on December 27, 2010.
Rolling Stone is a popular US-based magazine devoted to music, politics and popular culture. Busy's D.O.B placed third on Rosen's list of best albums in 2010 behind American rapper Kanye West's My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, which topped the list, and pop duo Sleigh Bells' Treats.
Busy is the only Jamaican entertainer featured in the article. Rosen commented, "The Jamaican dancehall star Busy Signal is one of the world's great rappers - a wit and a charmer, with fearsome flow and great taste in beats. His latest album is his finest yet. Don't sleep, US hip hop headz!"
D.O.B was released on July 13 and marked the deejay's second album for VP Records, featuring singles such as How Yuh Bad So, Picante, One More Night, among others. Touching on a variety of topics as well as genres, Busy Signal explored different sides to his music - from opera, to a cappella, acoustic, Spanish flair with a touch of techno, a lot of dancehall - and featured production work from Shane Brown, Stephen 'Di Genius' McGregor, Turk Muzik, among others.
Since the start of the year Busy has released singles such as Tempted to Touch -a remake of the Beres Hammond classic for Penthouse Records - as well as soca songs like Touch De Road,Brum Pum with Trever Off Key and Bend Ova on the 'Oil Mas' rhythm.
