Buju's Sister Adena Myrie Returns To The Spotlight

Though embattled Reggae superstar, Mark Myrie aka Buju Banton remains locked away in a Miami prison awaiting an appeal decision, more members of his family continue to delve successfully within the Dancehall/Reggae industry.

Digicel Rising Stars fans may remember former contestant, Adena Myrie, who appeared as a contestant on the prominent Jamaican talent show in 2009. The younger sister of Buju Banton, Myrie impressed several fans; making it all the way to the finals of that year’s competition. However, other than a few notable performances and a cover version of the gospel classic, My Redeemer Lives, Myrie fell of the radar somewhat as many wondered if she’d ever successfully follow in her brother’s footsteps.

However, Myrie has returned to the scene in 2012 with the unveiling of her single, I’m Gone on the Notice Productions crafted Daylight Riddim. The scintillating track, released on Thursday, tells the story of a break-up with a combination of hard-hitting lyricism with smooth vocals as she’s seemingly taken a more aggressive approach with her delivery.

In the song, Myrie deejays, “Fi 15 years of life mi did siddung wid a man, dis man did have a next plan, den mi realize him was just a plain fake, di bastard was a liard and a cheater and a con.”
In a recent interview, Myrie revealed that she had some major plans in the works for 2012, including a few singles as well as proofs with Dancehall/Reggae superstar, Sizzla. Additionally she performed stage shows during last holiday season.

Meanwhile, Myrie also expressed some satisfaction that her brother was moved from the Limestone County Correctional Facility in Groesbeck, Texas to a federal institution in Miami, where he’s currently serving a ten-year sentence on drug-related charges. However, Myrie conceded that Buju’s situation has been difficult to handle given how long he’s been away.

However, having last spoken to Buju three months ago, Myrie intimated that her brother encouraged her to carry on despite the predicament he’s currently involved in.

"Trust me, all I have to say is he is the one who is really encouraging me, to hold up my head and to keep pushing and stuff like that, and mustn't worry because he is fine," she said.

Buju Banton was sentenced to ten years in prison for convictions on charges stemming from a 2009 incident in Miami, where he allegedly conspired to organize a drug deal within a police-controlled warehouse.
