Arguably one of the hottest tickets in the Reggae and Dancehall space presently, red hot deejay Demarco is having one of the best years of his career with a noticeable increase in presence and demand on the entertainment circuit. Aside from serving up some of this years’ biggest hits such as ‘Puppy Tail’, ‘Good Book’, ‘Ride’, ‘Lazy Body’, ‘Apartment’, ‘Bun Up Road’, ‘Loyal’, ‘Bad Gyal Anthem’ and ‘Fool Fool Gangsta’ the latter featured on the heavily rotated Wul Dem Again Riddim produced by Yellow Moon Records; the blonde-haired singer has delved into film making with the launch of True Gift Entertainment (TGE) spawning his own online reality series ‘Talk Yuh Mind’ which continues to garner immense popularity on the social media circuit with its edgy humour.
According to Demarco, he has always had an affinity for the arts promptly citing that music and filming making are two of his favourites. Hence the transition from being an artiste/ producer to a film maker was a natural progression.
“I have always had an affinity for music and filmmaking so this transition is natural. As you may note in recent times all my visuals have been shot in-house and this forms part of the process of building the TGE brand amid honing the skills of my team. Ultimately we want to get into serious filmmaking so ‘Talk Yuh Mind’ could be considered a pilot project heading in that direction.”
Commenting on his increased popularity the ‘Bun Up’ singer notes there is also a noticeable spike in bookings as the festive season approaches.
“The Christmas season is going to be very hectic for me, I have a lot of shows both locally and internationally, therefore promoters who are interested need to act with immediacy as the dates are going quickly.”
Following his performances at Chug It, Spice & Vybz Kartel’s Video Launch and UWI Integration Thursday; Demarco is set to depart the island in the days ahead for a series of concerts in the U.S with stops in Boston, Massachusetts and New York’s state capital Albany among others. From there he’ll return in early December for a surfeit of local events amidst preparation for his upcoming European Tour. Demarco is also nominated for an Urban Music Awards in the ‘Best Reggae Act’ category; this marks the second time he’s being recognized by a European entity for his work. The 12th annual staging of the prestigious award show will unfold this Saturday, November 15th in London, England. The singer remains hopeful he’ll be the recipient when the smoke clears and the votes are tallied but is pleased nonetheless with being amongst the nominees.
“It’s very gratifying to be recognized for your work and even more humbling when an international organization such as the UMA gives you that approval. Come Saturday night may the best man win; at the end of it all we are all practitioners representing the same genre and that within itself is a great look for the music.”
Meanwhile, Demarco is in the studio working assiduously on a number of recordings while aggressively promoting the new singles ‘Bun Up Road’ on the Happy Hour Riddim produced by Chimney Records and ‘Watch E Lean’ featuring Quick Cook. The latter has also spawned a dance move courtesy of street dancers Shelly Belly and the Bermuda Squad.
