Popular dancehall producer Zum of Good Good Productions has reassembled Vybz Kartel's defunct 'Gaza' camp for his new compilation titled 'Vybz School' rhythm.
The rhythm features several recording artistes who were signed to Vybz Kartel's Portmore Empire label, the majority of whom were at odds with the self-proclaimed King of Dancehall at some point in the past.
According to Zum, the contribution that 'Gaza' made to the Jamaican music industry is invaluable, therefore, it makes perfect sense to give fans another taste of the crew which was very dominant in the 2000s. The Vybz School rhythm features Lisa Hyper, Shawn Storm, Vybz Kartel, Blak Ryno, Tommy Lee Sparta, Merital, Jah Vinci, and Sheba.
"I wanted something different because everybody been going in the same direction. It's been awhile since people heard the Gaza family, so mi decide to mek dem reunite and done," said Zum, who is riding high from the success of the 'Cure Pain' rhythm.
Noticeably missing from the project are Gaza Slim, Kim, Gaza Indu, Popcaan, and founding member Deva Bratt. Zum, however, said some artistes were being difficult, while others were simply unreachable at the time of production.
Nonetheless, he hopes to release a part two of the project in order to accommodate those missing Gaza members.
"I never got through to Deva Bratt, and Popcaan was being difficult, so I will leave it as that. I know this will be special because from mi post it online, the feedback has been very good, and mi not even drop the rhythm yet. People literally can't wait for it to drop," Zum said of the rythm that was released on the weekend.
"Gaza made a strong print in dancehall and they were one of the first groups to make their own rhythms and deejay on it as a group. They had the support of the street and people just generally love Gaza vibe," the producer added.
Lisa Hyper, who had been ousted from the group following the release of her sex pictures in 2009, said the project is creative.
"Gaza fans are still hoping and wishing to see us together and they are very excited right now. When I post it, everybody get excited, and I am very happy Zum did this because it is good for the fans and good for the artistes. I saw Merital when I went to record my song and it was like a high-school reunion and me and the other members good as well," she said.
Lisa Hyper is also gearing up to release a new song titled Game Over.
