Frankie Music To Release New Album With Reggae 'Generals'

Record label Frankie Music has been a significant contributor to the Jamaican music landscape. For more than a decade, the label has been churning out hit after hit. They are best known for songs such as 'Dweet Again' by Grammy Award winner Beenie Man, 'She's Happy' by Konshens and Delus, and, most recently, 'Raggamuffin' by new sensation Koffee.

It is against the background of that rich legacy that the label gears up to release its first official compilation for 2019.

The project, dubbed General A General, will see established acts, as well as up-and-coming stars, voicing songs on a 14-track rhythm album. Anthony B, Christopher Martin, Jesse Royal, Romain Virgo, Lutan Fyah, Qraig (from Voicemail), D-Major with Javada, Naomi Cowan, Tia, Shawn Antoine, Kumar and Symatic are among the artistes to be featured on the project.

Executive producer for the compilation, Comar 'Frankie' Campbell, said that the project is coming to "take charge". He said that everything, from the title of the compilation to the tracks, will be showing off the label's command of the music.

"The word 'general' refers to a commander of an army or an army officer of very high rank, and as my first album of the year, I thought it was fitting to take charge of the year," he said.

"We produce quality music with authentic Jamaican talent, and I hope the listeners will appreciate the good energy and powerful lyrics."

The owner and operator of Frankie Music expressed that with the breakout of numerous new talents in the music space, he wanted the project to reflect what has been happening in the local entertainment sphere. He also explained that he wanted the fresh acts to mix with the more experienced artistes.

"In recent times, there has been a major upsurge of new talent, especially in dancehall, and that is good for the genre. But it is also equally important that we maintain balance, hence the reason I decided to make this latest effort predominately reggae. That's my way of helping to preserve the music and culture for future generations," he said.

There is no specific release date set for the album, but the project is expected to drop in the next few weeks. Distribution will be done through VPal Music.
