A senior police officer has confirmed that the artiste was taken into custody early this morning during a major operation by members of the Flying Squad in the Corporate area.
Police sources say Kartel was arrested with a woman and both were charged with illegal possession of marijuana.
According to Assistant Commissioner of Police Ealan Powell, Kartel's arrest is part of a larger police investigation.
Its understood that the investigation could result in murder charges being laid against persons close to the entertainer.
