Elephant Man Trial Push Back Until February 2012

The trial of colourful entertainer Elephant Man on a charge of abstracting electricity was on Wednesday postponed to February 7, 2012 when the deejay appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court.

The trial was scheduled to commence on Wednesday, however, when the matter was mentioned it was pushed back further to a starting date next year. The artiste, whose real name is O'Neil Bryan, also had his bail extended.

The entertainer was arrested at his home on Hillcrest Avenue in Kingston on June 2 after it was alleged that he was using stolen electricity.

A team from the Jamaica Public Service Company, accompanied by the police, reportedly carried out an operation on Hillcrest Avenue when they visited a property housing an apartment complex. While inspecting the electric metering point, it was allegedly discovered that one of the meters had no socket. On closer inspection, the team allegedly observed that the meter contained an illegal connection, which went directly to an apartment they said was occupied by the entertainer.

The artiste was reportedly escorted from the building and shown the connection and the wires that were used. The team was then taken back into the house where they reportedly observed several appliances that were being powered by the stolen electricity.

The artiste was subsequently charged.
