After a glorious run in the early 1990s resurgent dancehall deejay Ninja Kid has returned in 2011 to score his first hit for the year with ‘Menke’, a calypso influenced track featuring popular radio personality ZJ Wahwa. Heading into 2012 with a steady momentum the artiste whose given name is Ojukwu Simpson has teamed up with accomplished producer Christopher Birch for his second breakout single titled ‘Have Nuh Gal Like We’ on the Symphony Rhythm.
Despite being newly released the song has already found its way onto several popular mixtapes aside from saturating the FM airwaves.
According to Ninja Kid, “Me and ZJ Wahwa say Menke and the people run with it, so me link up with Birch and find another hit, right now we going to shoot the video and release it early next year”. In closing Kid said, “Just listen out for some crazy things in 2012.”
Currently recording with a number of A-list producers, many influential figures in the dancehall fraternity have already hailed Kid as an aspirant for ‘Comeback Artiste of the Year’
Meanwhile, with his rekindled career Ninja Kid has been rocking fans on the Digicel Christmas Promotion Road Shows. Over the past few weeks the telecommunication giants made stops in, Negril, Mandeville and Montego Bay, where the ‘Menke Master’ ignited the hundreds in attendance with hits such as: ‘Menke’, ‘Internet Bad Boy’, ‘Cups High’ and ‘Taste & Buy’ from his growing catalogue.
"It was a joy to see the crowd singing my songs, these are the things that inspire me to never stop doing music” - Kid intimated, before extending a heartfelt thanks to Digicel for the opportunity.
Last week, he also delivered commendable performances alongside Blak Ryno and ZJ Wahwa at the Garvey Maceo High School Fundraiser and the Boom Energy Drink Christmas Party in Downtown, Kingston.
This Friday the Digicel road show will make its final stop in May Pen, Clarendon for the festive season.
