Mavado Turns Guyana Into Gullyana

Gully Gad Mavado caused musical mayhem last Friday night in Guyana, which many have now come to re-name "Gullyana." Jamzone 2011, held inside the National Stadium, was packed with a sea of people all who came to see Mavado represent.

"Its the biggest turnout of any show I've ever seen in Guyana," said the promoters of the event. "After Kartel ran off the planet it was left for Mavado to carry the event by himself. 40,000 people turned out to see the Gully Gad and he gave them a spectacular performance. It was history."

Originally the event was to be historic for another reason - it was going to be the first time in the Caribbean outside Jamaica that Mavado and Vybz Kartel were to perform on the same bill as headliners. Promoters had worked tirelessly to make it happen but despite Kartel's absence the show was a huge success.

Several Guyanese artists, including Natural Black, warmed up the stadium but when the MC entered the stage to introduce Mavado and urged the tens of thousands of patrons that it is time for all Guyana to go Gully as the "Gaza had abandoned and disrespected the people," the crowd went into a frenzy.

Backed by his Anger Management band, Mavado hit the stage with "So Special" and kept the crowd screaming for over an hour, as he belted out anthem after anthem, the crowd singing along to every line. Decked out in a denim suit, Mavado stamped one of those performances artist's give that make everyone who attended remember for the rest of their lives.

Taking them from Gangsta for Life to On the Rock to When You Feel Lonely to Star Bwoy, the crowd kept calling Mavado back for encore after encore, wanting to hear everything in the Gully Gad's immense catalogue. As the thousands and thousands of patrons filed out after the incident-free event, they were still singing his songs.

"We are delighted with this year's show," said the promoters. "They say a lot of things about Mavado and his entourage but he came here just with just his 4 band members, no entourage whatsoever. He was the model professional during his stay in Guyana, doing interviews and taking photos with fans all day prior to the event. Guyana is now totally Gully and we will be happy to invite him back here very soon to make more history."

"I always make sure turn out and turn it up for my fans!" said Mavado after an exhausting performance. "If I cant make it to a show it has to be for reasons I really couldn't do anything about. I don't want to have a reputation for anything but good music and positive vibes and that is what we are continually working towards. Guyana showed me a lot of love, as they always do, this show has got to be one of the most memorable I have ever done. I want to thank the promoters for their professional conduct and thank the people of Gullyana for the way they received me. I'll be back real soon!"
