Suspect Threatened Captain Barkey, Before His Death

Following the tragic death of veteran Dancehall star, Wayne ‘Captain Barkey’ Hamilton, details have emerged regarding events that happened weeks prior to his murder.

On Saturday, Captain Barkey and his female companion, Tracy Bennett were shot and killed as they were leaving a motel in the New York-based borough of the Bronx. Joseph Kernizan, Bennett’s ex-boyfriend, Joseph Kernizan, is accused of killing the couple and has been sought after by law enforcement officials since the incident occurred.

According to New York Police Department (NYPD) Lieutenant, John Grimpel, Kernizan possesses a very decorated criminal record as he has been arrested 16 times on charges that include assault, forgery, criminal possession of a weapon and robbery. Grimpel also revealed that the Haitian-born Kernizan has two children with Tracy Bennett, who had taken out a restraining order against her ex just weeks prior to her murder.

To make matters even more bizarre, media reports have suggested that people close to Captain Barkey warned the deejay about being involved in a relationship with Bennett as the veteran artiste received death threats from Kernizan weeks before his demise. Additionally, Barkey’s long-time friend and musical partner, Wickerman advised him to avoid the relationship given the possible danger that was involved.

Captain Barkey was a beloved figure within Dancehall circles as his 1996 hit single, Go Go Wine, launched him into stardom. The deejay soon formed an alliance with Wickerman as they released tracks together such as Wicked and Style Style Captain.
