Former Radio Jock Denied Bail In Attempted Murder Case

Former Kool 97FM disc jockey and Cash Cab TV host Wayne W. Whyte was denied bail on Thursday when he appeared before the Gun Court. Mr Whyte who has been in custody for the past six months, is awaiting trial for attempted murder following the gun attack against his co-worker and former television host, Jody Ann Gray, in April.

In applying for bail on Thursday, defence attorney Christopher Townsend told presiding judge, Mr Justice Bryan Sykes, that his client was a fit candidate for bail.

He argued that Mr Whyte was not a flight risk and would turn up for his trial if released on bond. However, Justice Sykes said he was concerned about the safety of the victim and denied him bail.

A second accused in the case, Safari Farr, was also denied bail. Mr Whyte and Mr Farr are facing charges of wounding with intent, illegal possession of a firearm and illegal possession of ammunition, after Ms. Gray was shot as she arrived home in Cedar Grove Portmore on April 4th. Miss Gray was seven months pregnant at the time of the attack.

The police say as she was about to get out of her motor car, she was pounced on by a man, who shot her in the face and arm.

The man then jumped into a waiting Corolla motor car, which was being driven by Whyte.

The car was intercepted by a police patrol team with the men aboard. A third man in the vehicle will be used by the State as the key prosecution witness.
