Macka Diamond Brother Dies On Her 40th Birthday

For Macka Diamond, 2012 ended with her engaged in lyrical warfare with fellow deejay turned rival, Spice. In 2013, the veteran deejay faces battles of an entirely different kind off-stage.

On January 12, Macka, whose real name is Charmaine Monroe, was preparing to celebrate her birthday in style at her Forty and Fabulous party on Waves Beach in Portmore, St. Catherine when she received a saddening phone call. The prominent deejay received a phone call informing her that he 23-year-old brother, Charles Monroe died of leukemia.

Though this news obviously changed her mood on her special day, Macka Diamond believes her brother has gone to a better place. She said, "It was really sad news but I take solace in the knowledge that he has gone to a better place. He was in a lot of pain; he had been battling leukemia for quite some time.”

The funeral for Charles Monroe has been set for January 27.

But if things weren’t bad enough for Macka Diamond as she mourned her brother’s death, her own life was threatened as she survived a car crash on Wednesday. The Mi Bless singer’s publicist, Claude Mills confirmed the incident, revealing that Macka was allegedly cut off by another driver while travelling along the Nelson Mandela Highway in the vicinity of Ferry in St. Catherine. The driven then panicked, ran off the road and crashed.

The matter was subsequently reported to the police.

Musically, Macka Diamond has continued her lyrical assault on Spice with a pair of diss songs, including Donkey and Mi Nuh Fraid, reiterating her desire to clash the Body Great singer after allegedly running away from a clash at STING 2012 last month.
