Controversial Dancehall superstar, Adidja Palmer, more popularly known as Vybz Kartel will certainly miss the upcoming STING 2011 stage show after the deejay was denied bail in one of his murder cases.
Kartel, along with Portmore Empire protégé, Vanessa “Gaza Slim” Saddler
were remanded into police custody until January 9, 2011 during a
hearing in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrates Court on Monday. Both
artistes are jointly charged with conspiracy to pervert the court of
justice and attempting to pervert the course of justice in the Clive
“Lizard” Williams murder case.
This means that Kartel will miss the 28th edition of STING 2011, scheduled
to take place on December 26 at Jamworld in Portmore, St. Catherine.
Both artistes will remain behind bars during the holidays up until two
days after Kartel’s 36th birthday (January 7).
Kartel and Gaza Slim were slapped with said charges after law
enforcement officials claimed that they possessed a cellular phone
containing a text message what the self-proclaimed “Worl’ Boss” ordered
Slim to concoct a robbery story involving Williams. On October 29, Gaza
Slim filed a police report at the Constant Spring Police Station;
claiming she was robbed and gun-butted by Williams during an incident in
Havendale, St. Andrew. This took place five days after Kartel was
charged with murder in the Williams case.
Senior Magistrate, Judith Pusey demanded that all alleged texts
exchanged between Kartel and Gaza Slim be handed over to her as soon as
possible.
Another Portmore Empire member, Pim-Pim, believed to have taken part in the alleged conspiracy, has yet to surrender to police.
Additionally, a hearing in the Williams murder case took place inside
the Home Circuit Court (Supreme Court) on Monday afternoon. It was
ruled during the hearing that all video and voice recordings pertaining
to the case must be handed in to the court by 2 p.m. on Tuesday. Any
other documents in relation to the matter should reach Kartel’s defense
team by January 5, 2012.
Kartel faces a January 13, 2012 court date in that case. “Di Teacha” along with Portmore Empire protégé, Shawn Campbell aka Shawn Storm, Calvin Haye aka Moonie, Cayro Jones and Andre St. John are all charged with murder in the Williams case.
