Vybz Kartel Charged for Murder & illegal Possession of Firearm

As promised the Jamaican police have broken their silence regarding the ongoing investigation involving popular dancehall deejay Vybz Kartel.

It's understood that investigators attached to the Major Investigation Taskforce (MIT) on Monday evening charged the Gaza boss Vybz Kartel with murder, conspiracy to murder and illegal possession of firearm. However it's still unclear if the additional charge for marijuana possession will be laid against him as well.

A release from the police said that the charges against the entertainer, whose real name is Adidja Palmer, were made after detectives from the MIT conducted an interview this afternoon in the presence of his lawyers.

According to the official police document, “The allegation is that on Monday, July 11, 2011, Palmer, along with other men, conspired to murder Barrington Burton o/c ‘Bossie’, a 27-year-old businessman/promoter of a Gregory Park address in St Catherine. Burton was murdered while he was standing with friends along Walkers Avenue in Gregory Park,.

Vybz Kartel was picked up by cops at a hotel in New Kingston Friday morning, hours after he completed the filming of season two of his television series, Teacha's Pet. A small quantity of marijuana was found in the hotel room and Kartel, along with three other persons were charged with possession of the banned substance.

A preliminary hearing is set for Tuesday,  October 4th at the Half-Way-Tree Resident Magistrate’s Court.

The three persons, taken into custody along with Kartel are scheduled to appear in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court this week. Andre St John and Shane Williams, will appear on Tuesday, while the third, Alicia Jackson, will face the courts of October 7th.
