Vybz Kartel Transferred To New Prison Facility Under Heavy Security

Incarcerated dancehall artiste Vybz Kartel has been transferred from the Horizon Adult Remand Centre to the maximum security Tower Street Adult Correctional Centre, according to reliably sources.

It's understood that the controversial entertainer, whose real name is Adijah Palmer, was removed from the Spanish Town Road, Kingston-based Horizon facility and transferred  to the Tower Street correctional facility in downtown Kingston under heavy police guard on Tuesday.

Details as to why he was removed are still unclear.

There has been speculation that he was removed because of a suspected breach committed at Horizon Adult Remand Centre. It's further understood that on Wednesday morning senior officials at the facility were locked in a meeting and could not comment on the development.

Several calls to Ina Hunter, Commissioner of Corrections, were also unsuccessful.

Following a 65-day trial said to be the longest in Jamaica’s history, Kartel and cronies Shawn ‘Shawn Storm’ Campbell; Kahira Jones; and Andre St John were sentenced to life imprisonment for the August 2011 murder of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams.

Kartel and his three co-convicts have filed appeals against their incarceration and sentences.

Despite his incarceration, Vybz Kartel still dominates the airwaves in Jamaica with new releases said to be recorded before he was locked up.
