In an article published by the Bahamian newspaper - 'The Tribune' a number of locals were asked for feedback on dancehall star Vybz Kartel latest business venture. Though it seems a contradictory move, "the cake soap king" is set to launch a new skincare line of products and fragrances.
Based off Kartel's popular catch phrase, the fragrance, for both men and women, is called OH'.
Among the new products to be release on the market are, Vybz Skin Brightener, Vybz Body Brightener, Vybz Anti-Aging Moisturiser, Vybz Astringent, Vybz Soap and OH! by Vybz Kartel in men's cologne and women's perfume.
In a press statement the artist said: "It is the fragrance from Vybz Kartel called "OH," and it's for men and women. Also I have astringents, and skin lighteners/toners for the ladies as well. It's a whole line of skin care products from the Worl' Boss."
Kartel said the recent success from the cake soap propelled him to launch the line. He also said an exclusive store will be opened in time for the release of the products and he is looking to get them in Macy's.
"The store opening will coincide with the release of the products in September. As far as plans for the products go, I wanna see them in Macy's and all other fine retailers worldwide. Romping Shop will be the distributor of the product, so the product can be bought by retailers and sold anywhere they choose to sell them."
The paper spoke to a few people who said they are not interested in purchasing any skincare products by the artist. One person said: "If using these products will cause me to end up looking like Vbyz then I am not interested because he looks a hot mess."
Nelly Colebrooke had this to say: "Why would I want to buy skincare products by Vybz Kartel? Do you see how his face and his skin looks? I mean he is not so bad of an artist but I don't want to look no way like him. He already looks like a corpse, you think I want to look like one too," she said.
"Vybz Kartel actually has a fragrance out by the name of OH? I can't imagine what that smells like. Just imagine me going into a store asking people if they have 'OH'. I would never purchase any skin care products by Vybz Kartel," said Jason Taylor.
Jashad Simmons said: "Hell no I wouldn't buy his skin care line God make me black I will be black. I am not that black whereas I need to bleach. I just can't support him because he's into darkness, bleaching, wearing weave, one more feminine action and I am really going to think he's gay."
This will be the third different line of products merchandised by Vybz Kartel since the beginning of this year. This past February, the self-proclaimed "Dancehall Hero" announced the launch of his new shoe brand, "Addis." He also announced his intention to release T-shirts, dog tags and belt buckles based off the Kartel brand "Di Teacha," and unveiled his own brand of blue power soap called "Vybz Cake Soap," in May across select stores in Kingston and Falmouth.
